Well, hello there! I haven't departed for either pending trips yet, so this post only means one thing - I have something to brag about!
This past year has been incredibly challenging for me. Almost a year ago I lost my Mom. I never imagined making it through these last 11 months without her. She was my person. So, the fact that I have completed my final year of my undergrad without having her to bounce ideas off of, or chat, or laugh with made it all the more difficult. Some of you may know that my Mom was working towards an undergraduate degree of her own, for which she was 2 years away from achieving. I wanted to dedicate this last year at Acadia to her, and I think I've made her proud. Entering my undergraduate, I was fortunate enough to transfer a little more than a year's worth of credits (meaning I could complete my degree in 3 years, instead of 4). I transferred in with a transcript of nothing but various marks in the "A" range. My first two years, I did well, but not to the level I knew I was capable of. Well, I pleased to tell you that somehow, despite the struggles of dealing with such an unexpected loss, I managed to pull of a full year of straight A's!
I can't believe how quickly this time has passed. It doesn't seem all that long ago that I was making the transition from professional to student, and dealing with all of the challenges of being nearly a decade older than many of my classmates. As I pack up my things, I am reminded of how far I've come. I have built many friendships along the way, which have come with some pretty amazing memories. I'm ready for this chapter to come to a close. Not so ready, however, to get all of the things I need to get done in the next 13 days completed, but, hey, that's all part of the fun!
Hopefully my next update will be Ghana related. Two weeks from today I will be arriving in an entirely new country. Until then… the Orange Canadian
